This is our favorite bar and dining. We realized after tryin all the restaurants and bars in houghton lake , Prudenville, Higgins lake and Roscommon. We happened to get a flat tire and were stuck overnight in the area. This was the only place with the kitchen still open after 9pm (thank god!). We figured it would be typical bar food but holy wha….this place has a fantastic menu! I had the shrimp tacos of all things, and they were better here than at my favorite Mexican restaurant back home. We decided that we would take a trip back to the area for a weekend getaway or something and make sure we eat here at least once while we stay. Seriously great food. And we had a wonderful server!read more

Unfortunately we were overcharged $100 when we paid half cash and half credit card. I called the following week when I noticed the issue. Spoke with the manager and she looked into it and saw what had happened from being able to find our receipt. She stated she couldn’t refund us due to already charging us and would give gift card. I explained I was from out of town. She said she would call back and speak to her manager, I said if she cannot in the end refund I will take the gift card (I have family up here). She never returned a call and I’ve called up there twice both times them stating she’s busy and will call me back with absolutely no call back. Pretty disappointed.read more

Even with a good majority of their staff testing positive for Covid they are still trying to rush and open instead of shutting down to let the employees get much needed rest and back to health. We usually love The Back Door Saloon, but we recently came for dinner. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts for an appetizer. It was awful! Never like we’ve had before. Next, we ordered the boneless wings. The wings were so overcooked, we could not cut them. They we served with celery sticks that looked ready for the garbage! 🤮. Very disappointing! The server was outstanding and made up for the horrible food!read more

We were visiting Houghton Lake this past week for a Mini Family Reunion/ Parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary. The weather was rainy and cold for June so it was difficult to find places for everybody to visit. The most accommodating restaurant we visited was the Backdoor Saloon. Morgan P. (I'm pretty sure that was our servers name and sorry if I'm wrong) did a great job! The outdoor seating was a perfect spot for our ever growing group and she handled everything so well. I believe she was originally told 8-10 and once the last of us showed up it was probably 30 plus. At least a handful of separate tabs and people moving all around.... and she kept up with us all. It's really difficult to find great or even good service lately (understandably) so thanks again and keep up the great work! We appreciate you!read more

I have grown up spending my summers at houghton lake!! A few weeks ago my sister Paige Hogan and I stopped in for one drink and we ended up staying for a few drinks and apps. Food and service were super good. We had the big bad wolf sandwich, fried pickle chips, and buffalo chicken wrap. However, the staff kept skipping our songs we paid for on the touch tunes jukebox. They were mild rock songs. Eventually turned the volume all the way down to 1. If you don’t want your paying customers to choose music, I recommend you don’t have that type of set up.read more

We went for lunch with a very large group of people, including 14 very loud, happy and energetic first place cheer competition girls. The staff was amazing. The food was very good and served pretty darn fast considering the number of people. We actually enjoyed the place so much, we (husband and wife) returned for dinner that night.
